A 26-year-old civil engineer from Kolar was treated for fractures and multiple abrasions on his face with 3D printing technology.

According to the doctors who treated him, Kishore’s case was the rarest, with injuries on bones that form the eye socket, causing his eyes to drop.

“The 3D CT scan of the patient was 3D printed to obtain the exact replica of Kishore’s skull,” said Dr Aditya Moorthy, consultant maxillofacial surgeon, Vasavi hospital, who is one among the doctors who performed the surgery.

Such procedure is permanent and only in rarest of cases a patient has chances of infections, he added.

“I thought my face will never be normal again. It was painful a experience initially. But now I have regained my previous looks post-surgery,” added Kishore.
