Ucom names winners of national robotics championship

YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian Ucom telecom operator named today the winners of the 11th  national championship of robots.

Ucom is the general sponsor of the event. The  championship  was held on September 16th, bringing  together the best  42 robots, created by members of 42 teams aged 10-18, mostly represented by students of ArMath labs from all regions of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The robots were to break barriers and look for a way out of the labyrinth. The participants had been given two months to create their robots, which they tested in a hackathon also sponsored by Ucom.

"One of the features of the contest is that most of the parts and other components of robots were made by 3D printers and milling machines. The participants also made their boards and wrote the codes corresponding to the contest requirements. We are very encouraged that the young generation is developing engineering thought by offering their own  solutions and demonstrating a creative approach," said Karen Vardanyan, the executive director of the Union of Advanced Technology (UATE) Enterprises  and the organizer of the contest.

The co-founder and CEO of Ucom Hayk Yesayan recalled in turn that the company's corporate social responsibility strategy places considerable emphasis on projects related to the development of engineering thinking, programming and robotics.

"We are careful to ensure that these young people not only acquire professional knowledge and skills, but also have the opportunity to apply them, understand their strength and weakness, eliminate shortcomings and become the new generation of big business of the future," Yesayan said.

Director of World Vision Armenia Zhirayr Edilyan noted that such competitions are an essential platform where students demonstrate their abilities in the field of robotics, gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. "This is especially important for children living in remote communities of Armenia, so that they continue to study and fight for a better future, for their lives," Edilyan said.

Students of a Sisian school were awarded an incentive prize, the third place went to the IT Center team from Artsakh, and the second place went to an ArMath laboratory team from Sevan. The winner of the championship was a team of students from the ArMath laboratory in Gyumri, who received telephones from Ucom. All winners received also cash prizes from Ucom and World Vision.

The ArmRobotics program has been implemented in Armenia since 2008. The main objective of the competition is to involve young people in the process of creating robotics, automated processes and tools of IoT (Internet of things), and also attract public attention to the need for IT development and modern technology. -0-
