SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (KUTV) — High winds raised concerns as massive flames tore through a Daybreak home.
Crews responded to the home near West Millie Lacs Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
South Jordan Fire Deputy Chief Ryan Lessner said the family was inside when the fire broke out but managed to get out safely.
"Upon arrival, fire crews had heavy smoke and flames showing from the exterior of the home," Lessner said.
Lessner said crews acted quickly to keep the fire from spreading and called in help from surrounding departments due to the high winds.
"That's always a concern when we have any fire that can respond to whether it's a crosswind," Lessner said.
The damage is still being assessed, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. As the investigation continues, Lessner emphasized a simple but potentially life-saving step for homeowners.
"Make sure that you've got working smoke detectors," he said.
Fire crews are expected to stay overnight to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
